By now everyone from the school gym teacher to Michelle Obama has emphasized the importance of getting enough exercise as a key to maintaining and improving our physical health. Getting enough sleep and eating a healthy diet are not far behind. What we all have received far less education on is how to manage and sustain our mental health in spite of all the stresses we experience on a daily basis. These stresses can trigger a range of emotions including anxiety, anger, and depression, all of which can build up to the point where they impair our ability to cope and function in a healthy manner.
